Electrical Technician

Job Purpose:

The HVAC Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing HVAC and tunnel ventilation systems within the Cairo Metro Line 3 depots and stations. The role ensures the systems’ continued efficiency, safety, and compliance with operational standards while supporting ongoing maintenance, emergency repairs, and system enhancements. This position requires independent and proactive work within a collaborative team environment, ensuring the functionality and reliability of essential systems critical to metro operations.

Responsibilities/Duties

HVAC Maintenance and Repair:

• Perform regular maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems and tunnel ventilation equipment in accordance with established specifications.
• Ensure that maintenance tools and equipment are in optimal condition for use.
• Conduct scheduled inspections, including electrical connections, circuit breakers, and power supply systems.
• Replace worn-out or damaged parts to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.
• Provide close supervision and leadership to subcontractors, ensuring adherence to the preventive maintenance plan.

Troubleshooting and Repair:

• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in HVAC systems, providing effective and timely solutions.
• Repair faulty components, including electrical faults, wiring, and other damaged equipment to restore HVAC system functionality.
• Respond to urgent electrical failures, diagnosing issues that affect system performance and taking corrective actions as needed.
• Assist in the rehabilitation of existing railway assets, focusing on extending service life and improving safety.
• Perform all necessary installations, inspections, and tests to ensure systems are functioning properly.

Collaboration and Coordination:

• Work closely with operations, maintenance teams, and other technicians to facilitate the execution of maintenance activities.
• Supervise and coordinate with contractors and external service providers for specialized maintenance tasks.
• Collaborate on maintenance projects to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks.

System Testing and Calibration

• Conduct system performance tests and adjustments to ensure HVAC systems operate at optimal efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Calibrate HVAC systems, electrical relays, and switches for peak performance through regular testing.
• Survey buildings and mechanical systems to confirm that they meet health and safety standards.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs performed.
• Log daily maintenance activities and track progress on repair work.
• Support the preparation of detailed reports regarding the condition of railway structures, recommending improvements or future maintenance needs.
• Assist in field surveys and assessments to provide insights for engineering studies or future projects.

Safety

• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.
• Participate in safety audits and contribute to the development of safety protocols for civil maintenance tasks.
• Be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as needed, including working outside regular hours.

Maximo

• Utilize Maximo system to log and track maintenance activities, work orders, and asset performance.
• Update system records to ensure accurate tracking of equipment condition, maintenance history, and performance metrics.
• Assist in the generation of reports and analysis from Maximo to guide decision-making related to system performance and asset lifecycle management.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC certification, building maintenance technology, or related field preferred.
• Proven experience as a maintenance technician, ideally in an HVAC or mechanical system-related role.

Knowledge:

• Strong understanding of general maintenance processes and methods.
• Familiarity with mechanical systems and general technical troubleshooting techniques.
• Knowledge of Maximo EAM or similar asset management software.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience, with experience in site supervision and HVAC system maintenance.
• Previous experience in the railway industry is considered an asset.
