AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine has been redeveloped to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:
ROLE PURPOSE
The Engineering Training Coordinator is accountable for the planning and oversight of training, monitoring of compliance with legal requirements in the attainment of a competent and fully trained workforce. If necessary, the role holder will provide training on technical aspects. The role holder will also ensure that all employees within the engineering department are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to perform their roles safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. This role involves the design, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of training programs across engineering, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and workforce development.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
- Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
- Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
- Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
- Comply with AGAG Environmental Management, compliance and other legal requirements.
- Take action to prevent environmental pollution
- Identify skill gaps and recommend appropriate training interventions.
- Ensure all training activities comply with national mining regulations, ISO standards, and company policies.
- Design, develop, and implement training programs tailored to engineering (e.g., equipment handling, safety protocols, environmental compliance).
- Deliver both classroom-based and on-the-job training sessions.
- Liaise with supervisors, safety officers, and external training providers to coordinate training schedules and content.
- Support new employee onboarding and induction processes.
- Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and attendance logs.
- Coordinate certification and re-certification processes for statutory and technical training.
- Coordinate the development of the training budget
- Ensure all training activities comply with national mining regulations, ISO standards, and company policies.
- Design and implement comprehensive induction and development programs for Graduate engineering trainees and National service personnel
- Assign mentors, monitor progress, and ensure training objectives are met.
- Maintain development portfolios and provide regular performance feedback.
- Collaborate with HR and Engineering leadership to develop and update Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
- Support succession planning initiatives by identifying high-potential staff and ensuring their developmental readiness.
- Facilitate technical mentorship and coaching programs.
- Participate in departmental and sectional meetings as required.
- Maintain meeting records, agreed actions, and follow up to ensure actions are completed.
- Recognise the need for, recommend and install improvements in management engineering Training
- Coordinate all Site Engineering Training
- Ensure all training activities comply with national mining regulations, ISO standards, and company policies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal and industry-specific training requirements.
- Coordinate certification and re-certification processes for statutory and technical training.
- Participate in incident investigations and provide feedback regarding the agreed corrective actions.
- Produce daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports accurately and timely information that clearly describe the status of engineering training program.
- Ensure contractors receive site-specific inductions and safety training before commencing work.
- Promote safe behaviors through training that reinforces safety culture and accountability.
- Develop and deliver training programs that support organizational changes such as new technologies, systems, processes, or restructuring.
- Gather feedback from employees on training effectiveness and change adoption, and relay insights to leadership.
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Qualification:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree or HND in, Engineering.
- Certificate in HR or Training and development will be an added advantage
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with minimum of three (3) years’ of relevant experience in engineering) OR
- Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Maintenance, etc. per Reg. 51 &54 LI2182) with minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
- Candidate must have at least two (2) years engineering training facilitation experience (Conducting Training on SOPs, Energy Isolation, Working at height training, etc.)
Technical Competencies
- Excellent training facilitation and presentation skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Data-driven approach to measuring training impact and performance improvement.
- In-depth understanding of engineering functions in a mining context.
- Strong grasp of HSE standards, regulations, and legal compliance.
