JOB PURPOSE:
The Power Supply Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the engineering activities related to the metro’s power supply systems, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient delivery of electrical power to all metro infrastructure and rolling stock. This role involves auditing maintenance activities, providing expert technical support to the maintenance team, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational requirements. The Power Supply Lead Engineer will also drive continuous improvement initiatives, participate in the planning and execution of system upgrades, and collaborate across teams to optimize power supply system performance, minimizing downtime and maximizing system reliability. Additionally, the role includes managing technical documentation, assisting troubleshooting efforts, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards in line with ISO certifications and safety protocols.
Profile
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and performance of the metro power supply infrastructure, including traction power systems, substations, and auxiliary power systems.
- Ensure the reliable delivery of electrical power to the metro network by monitoring the power supply systems, identifying potential issues, and proactively implementing solutions to avoid power disruptions.
- Develop preventive maintenance strategies for power supply equipment to maximize system uptime and prevent service interruptions.
- Provide expert technical support to the maintenance department, assisting with troubleshooting and diagnostics of power supply and electrical systems.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to resolve electrical faults, ensuring quick identification and resolution of issues affecting the metro’s power supply and operations.
- Offer technical support during planned maintenance shutdowns and emergency situations, including immediate response to electrical failures or faults impacting service.
- Provide guidance to maintenance teams on the proper operation, testing, and repair of power supply equipment, ensuring safe and efficient handling of systems.
- Produce, review, and amend maintenance documentation packages for power supply systems, ensuring all necessary information is up-to-date and accurately reflects operational requirements.
- Review and update maintenance intervals, derogations, repair authorizations, change orders, and trials. Validate significant changes to maintenance procedures and plans through the ACCA process.
- Ensure all maintenance documentation is followed and applied in accordance with industry standards, including validating changes to procedures and maintenance plans.
- Work within document management systems and tools to ensure proper control, versioning, and compliance with maintenance protocols.
- Monitor asset reliability and availability, analyzing power supply system performance to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Lead technical investigations into electrical system failures, providing expertise and recommendations to the production team for corrective actions.
- Assist with daily reporting on any failures that impact service, offering insights on root causes and suggesting improvements.
- Define the quantities of consumables and spares needed for system-related items, and estimate the times required for maintenance interventions.
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, operational standards, and industry-specific requirements (e.g., OHS regulations, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 55001).
- Participate in management reviews to ensure compliance with safety management and quality standards, and lead audits in compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 55001.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to safety protocols in all maintenance work on power supply systems, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Provide technical expertise and support for commissioning, and testing of new power supply systems or system upgrades, ensuring alignment with operational and safety standards.
- Collaborate with project teams during the implementation of new power infrastructure or upgrades, ensuring timely and successful delivery of projects.
- Participate in Testing & Commissioning (T&C) of new phases, providing expert guidance and oversight throughout the process.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, applying new technologies and best practices to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and performance of power supply systems.
- Provide advice on future system requirements and emerging trends in power supply technologies to ensure the metro network remains reliable and future ready.
- Assist with the setup, maintenance, and updating of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure accurate tracking of power supply system maintenance and performance.
- Ensure that maintenance intervals and repair schedules are accurately reflected in the CMMS and assist with ongoing updates.
- Lead the annual power supply asset condition survey, identifying any potential issues or degradation in the power supply infrastructure and providing recommendations for corrective actions.
- Prepare and maintain accurate technical reports, providing detailed analysis of system performance, root cause investigations, and corrective actions taken to resolve issues.
- Produce and review audits and other compliance documents to ensure ongoing quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Provide on-call technical support during emergency situations, ensuring a rapid response to power outages, electrical faults, and system failures to minimize disruption to metro services.
- Lead or coordinate emergency response efforts for power supply failures, support the maintenance team to quickly assess damage, implement repairs, and restore operations.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams (e.g., rolling stock, signaling, depot equipment, track,) to ensure seamless integration of power supply systems with other metro infrastructure.
- Act as the technical point of contact for maintenance teams, providing support, advice, and solutions related to power supply and electrical systems.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Strong background in power supply systems.
- Proficient in electricity, electronics, and related technical fields.
- Advanced technical expertise in engineering systems.
- In-depth understanding of railway safety culture and regulations.
- Broad knowledge of the railway industry and operations.
- Experience in Testing & Commissioning (T&C) and Maintenance Production.
- Familiarity with management practices.
- Solid knowledge of safety management, including Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
- Experience with MMS such as Maximo.
EXPERIENCE:
- 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in the railway industry.
- At least 5 years of experience in a metro or LRT environment.
