Makerspace Summer Internship – Fab Lab Egypt
Position Type: Part-time Internship (20–25 hrs/week)
Duration: 2 months ( July & August 2025)
Compensation: Paid monthly
Location: Fab Lab Egypt, Maadi, Cairo
Eligibility: Open to students currently enrolled in a higher-education program (university, academy, or institute).
Internship Description
Core Makerspace Duties (50%)

# 1 Core Makerspace Duties (50%)
Each intern will be trained on the core operations that keep our space running. They will work in rotating shifts to help manage the space, support its users, and ensure a high standard of safety and service. Responsibilities include:
Deliver engaging orientations and facility tours to new users.
Maintaining an inviting workspace by organizing benches, tools, and consumables.
Conduct equipment checkup and clean up at the beginning and end of shifts.
Monitor equipment usage, proactively assisting users, and intervening when needed.
Promote safety practices and ensure consistent use of PPE.
Manage access, tool reservations, track usage, and collect user feedback.
Assist users in preparing digital files: slicing, nesting, and CAM toolpaths.
Perform basic manufacturability checks to avoid common fabrication issues.
Assist with setup and logistics for workshops, and events.
# 2 Elective Duties (50%) - Based on Skills and Interests
In addition to core responsibilities, interns will bring their own skills to lead unique projects and contribute to initiatives that impact the space and its community. These contributions will fall under one or more of the following tracks:
## Media, Communication & Outreach
A- Marketing & Social Media: shoot and post weekly reels, stories, recaps.
B- Video Production & Editing: storyboard, film, and edit scenes, tutorials or spotlights.
C- Graphic Design: Design posters, signage, and infographics. Contribute to the visual identity.
D- Editing & Storytelling: Write blog posts, user guides, and project showcases.
## User Engagement & Hands-on Activities
E- Activities & Kits: design hands-on, engaging activities and kits for drop-ins.
F- K12 STEAM Workshops: develop age-tiered lesson plans, host visiting classes.
G- Events & Meet-ups: plan talks, demo nights, hackathons.
H- Maker Experience: Create welcome kits, design skill trees or learning journeys.
## Making, Art & Tech
I- Digital Fabrication: Support in design for 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC machining.
J- Tool & Shop Skills: Perform repairs, work with wood and metals, make big things.
K- Craft Making: Make models, samples, and collaborate on art projects.
L- Electronics, Robotics & IoT: Build bots and automation systems, write documentations.
