JOB PURPOSE:
The OCC Controller is responsible for overseeing and regulating real-time metro train operations to ensure safe, reliable, and punctual service across the mainline and depot. The role involves continuous monitoring of train movements, executing incident response procedures, managing traction power systems, and coordinating with the OCC Duty Chief Controller, depot teams, and maintenance teams. By applying operational regulations and maintaining effective communication, the OCC Controller plays a vital role in service continuity, safety compliance, and operational excellence.
Profile
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Train Operations Supervision
- Oversee train movement and ensure adherence to the operational timetable.
- Monitor train injection/removal according to the timetable.
- Implement train short-loops or turnbacks based on OCC Duty Chief Controller instructions.
- Allocate and inject spare or hot stand-by trains as required to maintain service frequency.
Incident & Traffic Regulation
- Apply appropriate regulation actions to minimize train delays and maintain headways.
- Manage operational incidents and degraded service scenarios to restore normal operations swiftly.
- Take real-time notes during incidents to support post-incident reporting.
Service Quality & Passenger Comfort
- Monitor onboard conditions to ensure passenger comfort and safety.
- Coordinate train exchange for defective or non-compliant trains in service.
- Inform the Customer Information Officers of traffic conditions to enable timely public announcements.
Coordination & Communication
- Maintain effective communication with the OCC Duty Chief Controller, depot staff, and maintenance teams.
- Assist the OCC Duty Chief Controller in preparing reports and correspondence.
- Instruct and guide shunting drivers as per operational needs.
- Interface with other units for PTW (Permit to Work) management and take over when necessary.
Depot Operations & Movement Management
- Define track allocation for trains entering or leaving the depot.
- Coordinate train exchanges and movements between mainline and depot.
- Manage shunting, stabling, and unstabling sequences based on maintenance priorities.
- Oversee depot route movement and train wash scheduling.
- Program and monitor manual/automatic washing track operations with traffic coordination.
Traction Power & Energy Network Control
- Control and supervise traction power systems, including HV, MV, and LV networks for both the line and depot.
- Configure the depot power network for maintenance or degraded operation scenarios without affecting train movement.
- Respond to emergencies by shutting down traction power upon request from drivers or OCC Duty Chief Controller.
- Manage power feed to depot areas (stabling/depot tracks) in coordination with Maintenance Direction.
Maintenance Coordination
- Follow up on maintenance activities to ensure Rolling Stock availability.
- Align train circulation with maintenance priorities and schedules.
Compliance and Standards
- Apply and enforce all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and operational regulations.
- Ensure actions align with company policies, service level targets, and safety standards.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Communications.
- Fluent in Arabic with a very good command of English.
KNOWLEDGE:
- High level of computer literacy, with the ability to operate and navigate specialized software and control systems used in
transport operations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Sound understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals relevant to control and operations environments.
- Familiar with the use of operational monitoring tools and systems within industrial or transport-related settings.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 - 5 years of relevant experience, ideally within the railway, metro, or transportation sector.
- Prior involvement in control center operations, railway signaling, or train dispatching is advantageous.

washing schedules, and power operations with minimal disruption.

tasks such as incident reporting, train exchanges, and depot routing.
