Our Legal Department covering the business area Europe, APAC & MEA is looking for an ambitious Legal Counsel to join its team. In this position, you will be heading the legal function for our Commercial Area Idia, Middle East and Africa (IMEA). In the role which is based in Cairo (Egypt) you will together with a small team based in the same location play a key role in providing legal support to our offices across IMEA region. In your role you will also form a part of Electrolux extended leadership team for the IMEA region.
This is a dynamic role, which allows you to put a mark on the business. You have a genuine interest in understanding the business thereby being able to anticipate needs and concerns and work with continuous development. Reporting directly to the VP General Counsel for the business area Europe, APAC & MEA sitting in Europe, you’ll be an integral part of Electrolux Group Legal Affairs who are responsible for protecting Electrolux Group’s interests in all legal matters.
REGULAR DAY AT WORK
As Head of Legal IMEA, you are – together with you team - expected to act as a legal generalist who is well versed with different legal, commercial and compliance topics. You will act as a professional legal advisor, trusted governance counsellor and reliable business partner providing legal support to various business stakeholders in achieving the Electrolux targets and managing associated risks. You will be working in a fast-paced and ever-changing business and legal environment. Therefore, you need to be agile, willing to adapt and also capable of driving change. You will negotiate complex agreements, analyze risks and render practical/solutions-oriented advice in a wide variety of matters relating to distribution, sourcing, procurement, supply chain, e-commerce, marketing/advertising claims, dispute resolution and compliance / governance topics such as data privacy, anti-bribery and anti-trust. You will work in close cooperation with several business units and other staff from different functions across the organization. As we are a truly international company, you will interact and involve in matters with other legal teams across the world. You will manage contacts with external parties such as law firms and authorities.
In particular, your responsibilities will include:
- Compliance: Ensuring that the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations in the jurisdictions where it operates. This includes monitoring changes in legislation and advising on their impact on the business.
- Policy Development: Assisting in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks.
- Training and Education: Conducting training sessions for employees on legal and compliance topics, such as data privacy, anti-bribery, and anti-trust laws.
- Litigation Management: Overseeing and managing any litigation or disputes involving the company, including working with external counsel and representing the company´s interests in legal proceedings.
- Intellectual Property: In close cooperation with Electrolux IP Legal Department, managing and protecting the company's intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
- Risk Management: Identifying and assessing legal risks and developing strategies to mitigate them.
- Corporate Governance: Supporting the company's corporate governance framework, including advising on board and shareholder matters.
You are available to travel to the various Electrolux offices across the region on a need-to basis.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Qualifications: Must be qualified to practice law in Egypt [or another jurisdiction in Middle East].
- Experience: Approximately 10-15 years of post-qualification experience with a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel in a multinational company, ideally within the home appliances or manufacturing sector.
- Regional Expertise: Proven experience in managing commercial, legal, and compliance/governance matters with a regional scope. Given that Egypt is the regional headquarters and a key market and manufacturing hub, substantial work experience in Egypt is essential. Additionally, exposure to working in the Middle East is crucial.
- E-commerce and Consumer Experience: Experience in a direct-to-consumer or e-commerce environment is desirable but not mandatory.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and Arabic is a must.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex legal issues and provide practical, solution-oriented advice.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Leadership and Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including other legal professionals, business units, and external counsels.
- Ethical Standards: High ethical standards and integrity, with a commitment to upholding the company's values and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
