Firefighting & Dewatering Technician

JOB PURPOSE:

To ensure the seamless operation and safety of Firefighting and Dewatering systems across Cairo Metro Line 3, with a focus on proactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs, while adhering to all health and safety protocols. This role ensures the integrity and longevity of critical infrastructure systems, supporting the efficient functioning of the metro network.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

Firefighting and Dewatering Systems Maintenance

• Perform regular maintenance and repair activities for Firefighting and Dewatering systems equipment, ensuring compliance with system specifications.
• Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on various firefighting systems (e.g., FM200, CO2, Foam systems, Sprinklers, Pumps).
• Conduct periodic inspections and testing to ensure Firefighting and Dewatering systems are fully operational, including fire extinguishers and emergency systems.
• Diagnose issues, replace worn-out or damaged parts, and resolve malfunctions in system components such as motors, pumps, valves, and monitors.

Safety

• Ensure that all maintenance activities meet relevant safety standards and regulations. Participate in safety audits and contribute to the development of safety protocols for the maintenance of civil assets.
• Respond promptly to emergencies, assisting in the safe operation of Firefighting and Dewatering systems during critical events.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inspections, maintenance tasks, and repairs. Support the preparation of detailed reports on the condition of assets and suggest recommendations for maintenance or improvements.

Maximo

• Utilize the Maximo Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to log and track maintenance activities, repairs, and asset status.
• Supervise and coordinate maintenance activities through Maximo, ensuring timely execution of work orders and maintenance schedules. Collaborate closely with internal teams and external service providers to maintain system integrity.

Collaboration and Coordination

• Work closely with operations, maintenance teams, and technicians to ensure smooth execution of ongoing maintenance and repair tasks.
• Supervise contractors and external service providers on specialized tasks related to Firefighting and Dewatering systems.

Field Surveys and Assessments

• Assist in conducting field surveys and assessments to collect data for engineering studies or project planning.
• Support the implementation of new projects by providing insights on the current condition of the infrastructure.

General Maintenance and Operations

• Support overall building maintenance and the upkeep of common areas within Cairo Metro Line 3 depots and stations.
• Ensure all maintenance tools and equipment are in good working condition.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent; certification in Firefighting, Dewatering, or building maintenance technology is a plus.
• Fluency in Arabic is required, with proficiency in English (speaking and reading) being a plus.
• Capability to work on a shift basis and across different locations (including stations and depots) along Line 3.
• Ability to write simple technical reports and interact with both internal teams and external contractors effectively.
• Excellent eyesight and normal color vision.

KNOWLEDGE:

• Familiarity with general maintenance techniques and tools.
• Working knowledge of EAM systems like Maximo.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and possess good communication and customer service skills.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and general maintenance processes.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 3-5 years of work experience in maintenance, including experience in site supervision.
• Prior experience in the railway industry is an asset.
• Proven experience as a maintenance technician.
